JOB SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the department supervisor/director.Responsible for the delivery of patient care in the Emergency Department.This includes the ability to establish treatment priorities based on patient assessment and health history, including reports from pre-hospital healthcare providers.The Emergency Department Staff Nurse must be prepared to provide immediate interventions or initiate standing protocols as necessary based on the assessment.He/she is also responsible for patient education, advocacy, comfort, support, and supervision of care provided by ancillary personnel.Maintains the standards of professional nursing and the policies and operating instructions of Memorial Healthcare.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.Valid RNlicense from Michigan or a permit to certificationrecommended within 6 months, required within one year.
Experience:Minimum of six months clinical experience preferred in a medical/surgical area.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Assesses the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient.
2.Establishes treatment priorities/plan of care based on the assessment.
3.Initiates appropriate treatment in accordance with hospital policies and operating instructions.
4.Documents assessment findings, treatments/meds, response to treatments/meds and any other pertinent information on the medical record.

6.Recognizes changes in status of the patient or significant potential negative patient outcomes based on the nature of the injury or illness and acts upon the accordingly.Example:changes in neuro status or cardiac status.

8.Effectively communicates with patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other staff members.
9. Actively seeks self development through formal and informal educational opportunities, such as attendance at inservices, participation in quality improvement projects, review of professional journals, completion of self-learning modules, or attending outside seminars.
10. Participates in department activities such as staff meetings, special projects, providing input into unit objectives and budgetary needs and problem solving.
11.Demonstrates respect for patients and co-workers by maintaining confidentiality.

18. Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
19.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her assigned unit.Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient''s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient''s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit''s and division''s policies and procedures.
