1K a year JOB SUMMARY Under direction and supervision of a physical therapist, provides physical therapeutic intervention, in a clinic setting, to individuals with functional deficits secondary to musculoskeletal or sports related injuries.
Educates patients, families, and community.
Provides athletic training services to local school athletic teams.
Applies select therapeutic techniques and physical agent modalities to individuals, as ordered by a physician and directed by a licensed physical therapist to promote and restore physical functioning.
Directs patient participation in therapeutic exercise to restore, reinforce, and enhance physical functioning.
Performs required documentation.
Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.
Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Treats patients according to the assessment results and treatment plan established by the physical therapist.
Monitors patient performance and response to treatment and modifies program as indicated.
Documents all necessary information in the patient's medical record.
Educates/trains patients and families regarding disease/injury, treatment plan, self-help measures, preventive care, and treatment techniques.
Educates other departments and the public in the form of in-services, lectures or classes.
Participates in Quality Assurance activities as assigned.
Notifies physical therapist of patient's response to treatment.
Provides athletic training services (taping, first aid, exercise, consultation and physician referral) to area schools and in outpatient clinics.
Assists with marketing of sports medicine services to area school administrators, coaches, and physicians.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures.
Demonstrates job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.
Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports hospital's mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards and the code of ethical behavior.
DEPARTMENTAL AND ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Assists with other department needs such as scheduling, answering the telephone, etc.
Assists other staff with treatments as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION Graduate from an accredited bachelor's level or higher.
Athletic Training program.
Certified in the state of Michigan.
EXPERIENCE Successful completion of all field work placements.
Demonstrated competency in physical therapy principles/techniques.
Field experience in athletic training.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS Able to move independently throughout the Memorial Healthcare facilities.
Small motor skills required for operating modern computer, office, and telephone equipment as utilized by Memorial Healthcare (MHC).
Sufficient strength and stability to perform passive, active or resistive exercise.
Ability to travel independently within the clinical and area high schools.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipment as used by Memorial Healthcare.
Ability to perform manual therapy techniques and operate treatment/assessment equipment.
Fine motor skills to apply taping, braces, etc.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced, quickly changing or stressful situations.
Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.
Ability to interpret assessment results, follows the developed treatment plan, and evaluates patient's response to treatment.
Sufficient clinical knowledge of physical therapy principles to work with limited supervision by the physical therapist (on-site or telecommunications).
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS Able to see for the purpose of reading information received in formats including but not limited to paper, computer, reports, bulletins, updates and manuals.
Able to see and hear for work-related purposes.
Ability to communicate receptively and expressively in English (in writing and verbally) with patients, families, and staff.
Ability to access patient records.
Tactile/proprioceptive skills sufficient for effective palpation and examination of patients.
Ability to visually and auditory monitor treatment and patient's response to treatment.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Ability to interact with co-workers, hospital staff, administration, patients, physicians, the public and all internal and external customers in a professional and effective, courteous and tactful manner, at all times, physically, verbally and in all written and electronic communication.
Required to remain calm when adversity is encountered.

Ability to effectively motivate patients and interactive effectively with patients, families, students, physicians, hospital staff, and others involved with the patient's care.

Must be able to demonstrate safe and effective operation of equipment and application of treatment procedures to ensure patient safety.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
